The late Mr Vincent Ikechukwu Onaga, the immediate elder brother of the bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev Callistus Onaga was on Tuesday, the 11th of February 2020, laid to rest at his country home, Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The funeral mass, which was held at St Alfred Parish, Agbudu commenced at 10.00 am and was presided over by the younger brother of the deceased and the bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev Callistus Onaga.
In his homily during the mass, the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Very Rev Fr Prof Christian Anieke, expressed gratitude to God for the good and exemplary Christian life lived by the late Vincent, whom he said was indeed very committed to matters of the faith. He stated that the Mr Onaga’s years of illness afforded him ample opportunity to prepare himself for the final journey and that he felt confident that the deceased had attained the eternal happiness he worked for and looked forward to in heaven while he lived.
In his vote of thanks towards the end of the mass, Most Rev Callistus Onaga, on behalf of the Onaga family expressed heartfelt gratitude to the priests, the religious, government officials, the lay faithful and indeed all men and women of good will who had reached out to them since the demise of his brother and many who had contributed immensely to see to the success of his burial. He also thanked profusely members of his immediate family and all those who were committed to taking take care of the late Vincent while he was on his sick bed.
The burial ceremony attracted the presence of the auxiliary bishop of Enugu, Most Rev Ernest Obodo, the bishop emeritus, Anthony O. Gbuji and the Most Rev John I. Okoye, the bishop of Awgu Diocese while the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev Valerian Okeke was represented by his personal Secretary, the Rev Fr Benjamin Ogbunuko. There were also over 150 priests from across the dioceses in attendance as well as a teeming number of the lay faithful and a host of government officials including the executive governor of Enugu State, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
